Everything we do at Chateau Tongariro Hotel we believe in providing visitors with a timeless elegance.
We believe in preserving history and tradition. Our location within a Dual World Heritage National Park ensures we are advocates for conservation and we uphold a meaningful relationship with local Maori.
We acknowledge Ngati Hikairo as traditional custodians of this land.
The elegant Chateau Tongariro is located within Whakapapa Village - in the heart of Tongariro National Park and was constructed during the 'roaring twenties' and was also the year that was the beginning of the world's great depression, 1929.
Today, the hotel provides accommodation, restaurants, bars, conference facilities and is a popular wedding destination throughout the year.
The Chateau Tongariro Hotel is surrounded by a stunning natural playground bursting with diverse landscapes for visitors to the Tongariro National Park to discover.

LIFT REPLACEMENT: Between August 22 and October 21 2016 Chateau Tongariro will be replacing the original lift in the Heritage Wing of the Hotel. From time to time there may be noise disruption during the day relating to this work however this should be limited to the immediate area within the lift shaft only. This work will be Monday – Friday. We will have alternative access via our other lift in the Tongariro Wing which will provide temporary access through to the Heritage Wing. Access is also available via the grand staircase. During this time there will be no lift access to the guest facilities in the lower floor of the hotel however; these can be accessed by the stairwell from the main lounge.
We anticipate there may be delays with any baggage assistance while we are operating with only one lift.
We do appreciate your understanding during this very positive renovation project for the hotel.
